CARD, Claire

CARD - Claire At age 90, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 18, 2018. Claire resided at Beechwood Homes and was receiving Hospice Buffalo services. She donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program at the University of Buffalo. She was born in Newark, NJ and moved to St. Catharines, ON, Canada when she was 12 years old. In Canada, she made many lifelong friends and met and married the love of her life. She started out as a hair dresser where she operated a beauty salon with a fellow beautician. Claire later moved to Grand Island, NY where she was a resident for 54 years. She was involved in volunteering her beautician skills at the nursing home on Grand Island and was also involved in the River Lea Quilters Club, WOW bible study group and a quilters club in Myrtle Beach where Claire and her husband spent time every winter for many years. She was an active church member her whole life, loved people and was always there to give a helping hand to anyone in need and volunteer wherever needed. She enjoyed passing on her homemaking skills of sewing, knitting, and needlework to her daughters and granddaughter. Claire was the beloved wife of the late Roland Card for 66 years; mother of Sherry (Edward) Russak, Jamie Card, Wendy Card and the late Warren Card; grandmother of Nicole (Charles) LaRoche-Wolrich and Joshua Card; great-grandmother of Cassidy Card, Audrey Wolrich, Brooklyn Card, Piper Card and Margot Wolrich; daughter of the late Harry Walker and the late Florence Merriday; sister of the late George Walker and late Dorothy Vail. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Buffalo or Bible Fellowship Center, Grand Island, NY. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11 AM at Bible Fellowship Center, 1136 Baseline Rd., Grand Island, NY.
