Charter school embezzler gets jail time for failing to pay restitution

Krista B. Schultz has not been making her court-ordered restitution after embezzling $27,567 from Oracle Charter School in 2013, so she will be going to jail for one year.

Schultz, 47, of Snyder had been sentenced to five years of probation after her conviction for third-degree grand larceny in October 2015. She had stolen the money by overpaying herself during the seven months that she was chief financial officer of the Buffalo charter school. The theft was discovered by an outside accounting firm hired to audit the school.

Although Schultz could have been sentenced to up to seven years in prison at the time, she was allowed to remain free on the condition that she repay the money, but she still owes more than $21,000.

State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns ordered the one-year sentence for the probation violation.
