Every Person Influences Children (EPIC) is launching a car seat safety initiative that includes free classes and safety checks of car seats.
The new service will be offered by appointment at EPIC's offices at 1000 Main St. In addition, EPIC will take its car seat safety check to a number of community events this year.
Fueling the program was a $10,000 donation from the General Motors Tonawanda Engine Plant and Ram Ramanujam, plant manager.
Many of the parents EPIC will be helping with this program are economically disadvantaged and cannot afford a car seat, said Kristin Scholz, an EPIC spokesperson. Many purchase their car seat off Craig's List, at garage sales, or they pull it from a dumpster, Scholz said.
Staff members participating in the EPIC program are certified car seat technicians and members of SafeKids of WNY.
