Queen City Roller Girls heat January up with soup/chili cookoff

Heat up your January by participating in a chili and soup cookoff to benefit the Queen City Roller Girls’ internationally ranked team, the Lake Effect Furies.

The event is set for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 20 in Appliance Associates of Buffalo, 200 Amherst St. Tickets, $10, entitle the bearer to taste and judge a wide-ranging array of soups and chilis, meeting the desires of carnivores and  vegetarians alike.

Participants can vote for best soup, best chili, and best vegetarian creation.

The contest adds soup this year. Past entries included Sweet Potato Veggie; Kashmiri Chili, Masala Mushroom; The Boilermaker; Chile Verde; and True North Strong and (Meat) Free Chili.

There will be 50/50 raffles, beer, a basket raffle and Lake Effect Furies players to hang out with while taste-testing your way to a full belly.

The event is a fundraiser for the team which travels across the U.S. and Canada representing Western New York in the international world of roller derby. The Furies are currently ranked 18th of more than 400 teams worldwide.
