It's a bright Thursday for Deadheads.
Dead & Company, which features pop sensation John Mayer and three original members of the Grateful Dead, will play at 7 p.m. June 19 at the Darien Lake Amphitheater (9993 Allegheny Road, Darien).
Tickets, which go on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 26, range from $45 for lawn seats to $149.50, and can be purchased at LiveNation.com, Ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.
Dead & Company formed in 2015 through a relationship between megastar singer-songwriter Mayer and original Grateful Dead member Bob Weir. Fellow Dead bandmates Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart joined the fray, too, with Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti rounding out the group.
In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, Mayer described his connection to the Grateful Dead and how "Althea," the first Dead song that inspired him, started a true fascination.
"But as soon as you find your first entry, it's like threading beads on a necklace," Mayer said in the article. "I'll never forget that beautiful, bouncy interlude between the verses in 'Playing in the Band' or hearing songs like 'Estimated Prophet.' Nobody handed me a record. I took it all in via SiriusXM, the Grateful Dead channel, which I still play for hours each day, whenever I'm in the car."
Even without Jerry Garcia, who passed in 1995, and Phil Lesh - two of the Dead's best-known figures - Dead & Company has toured successfully for three years, including a stop at then-First Niagara Center in 2015. This will be the band's first return to the area since.
