Blasdell Mayor Michael Petrie, who joined the Hamburg Town Board on Jan. 1, plans to resign as mayor during Wednesday's Village Board meeting.
Petrie, who has served as mayor since 2010, said the village has been audited by the state comptroller's office, and he was waiting to sign the village's response letter on Wednesday before resigning.
"I'm going to miss it. I take great pride in being mayor, I've been here all my life," he said, adding that he accomplished all he had planned to by improving police and fire service and playgrounds.
The Village Board must appoint a new mayor from within its ranks. The new mayor would then appoint a new trustee.
Since Petrie's resignation came within 75 days of the March 20 election, an election for mayor won't occur until the March 2019 election, according to village administrator Janet MacGregor Plarr.
