Byron Lockwood appointed interim Buffalo police commissioner

Byron C. Lockwood, the first deputy police commissioner, was appointed interim police commissioner of the Buffalo Police Department, following the overnight retirement of Daniel Derenda, Mayor Byron W. Brown announced overnight.

Derenda served as police commissioner since July 2010.

Lockwood was a detective for many years and he is a former president of the Afro-American Police Association of Buffalo. As first deputy commissioner, he oversaw disciplinary hearings.
