Conservancy announces events for 150th anniversary of Olmsted park system

The Olmsted Parks Conservancy unveiled Tuesday a host of events for the 150th anniversary of the Frederick Law Olmsted-designed park system in Buffalo.

The Olmsted Parks Conservancy's 150th anniversary commemorative logo will appear across Buffalo this year.

Among the highlights:

  • The launch of an Olmsted app that will allow visitors to view an "augmented reality" of what the historic quarry garden looked like in its own time before the Scajaquada Expressway was built on its space.
  • Events in April celebrating Earth Day, Olmsted's birthday and Arbor Day.
  • A grand celebration weekend Aug. 17, 18 and 19 celebrating Olmsted's 1868 visit to Buffalo with his park designs.
  • A September launch of an endowment campaign.

Besides Delaware Park, the Olmsted system also includes Cazenovia Park, Front Park, Martin Luther King Park, Riverside Park and South Park.
