BIRMINGHAM - Ruth A. 80, of New Yorker Avenue, passed away early Sunday morning, January 14, 2018, at home after a long illness.
Born in Allegheny on August 21, 1937, she was the daughter of Albert and Aubyne Kennedy Johnson. Ruth graduated from high school in Allegheny and owned her business as a hairdresser before getting married. She married Thomas J. Birmingham in Allegheny on September 12, 1959. Mr. Birmingham died on December 25, 2013. Ruth grew up in Allegheny and moved to Buffalo after she and Tom were married. She relocated to Canastota in the fall of 2017 after becoming ill. While residing in Buffalo, Ruth was a member of the Smallwood Garden Club and truly had a passion for gardening. She enjoyed volunteering at the Teddy Roosevelt Center. Ruth loved to talk and always had a story to tell, especially to her children and grandchildren, whom she loved deeply.
Surviving are: one daughter, Jennifer Dwyer and her companion Jay Johnson of Canastota; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Charlene Birmingham of Lawtons; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Tom Dwyer, Tim Dwyer, Nicole and Tim Rendle, Dan and Ashley Birmingham, Heidi and Kurtis Hulse, Lena Birmingham and Marissa Birmingham; three great-grandchildren, Avery, Adalin and Carson; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Johnson of GA; several nieces and nephews including Dan, Debbie, Linda and Mark and numerous special friends who made a difference in her life. She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Johnson. At Ruth's request, there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 300 South Peterboro Street, Canastota.
