Driver who crashed through fence into Tonawanda school playground charged with DWI

A Buffalo man who crashed his vehicle through a fence into a school playground in the city of Tonawanda on Sunday morning was charged with driving while intoxicated, according to police.

Divine J. Garcia, 28, of Bradley Street, failed to negotiate a turn at Hackett Drive and Hamilton Street and crashed through fencing, winding up in the playground at Riverview School, City of Tonawanda police said.

Garcia refused to submit to breath tests and told officers he had been drinking at a local bar, police said. He was arrested at 4:51 a.m. and charged with DWI, driving at an imprudent speed, criminal mischief and five other traffic charges, police said. He was held on $250 bail.
