Kenton students advance to national auto tech competition

Two students from the Kenton Career Technical Center advanced to a national automotive technology competition, after winning a local event on Saturday.

The two-person team of Kyle Huttenmaier and Alex Prims won the 2018 Niagara Frontier Automobile Dealers Association's Ron Smith Memorial Auto Tech Competition, held at an Erie Community College facility in Orchard Park. The students' instructor is Gary Willis. A total of nine two-member teams competed.

The competition allows high school students to showcase their skills and prepare for careers as automotive technicians. Huttenmaier and Prims will take part in the National Automotive Technology Competition in New York City, held in conjunction with the New York International Auto Show, which runs from March 30 to April 8. The national competition distributes more than $3 million in scholarships and prizes.
