COLLEGE CASH – The Friends of the Amherst Symphony Orchestra and the Williamsville Rotary Club again are co-sponsoring a $1,500 scholarship for high school seniors who live in the Town of Amherst and plan to major in music in college, either as instrumental or vocal majors.
Application deadline is Feb. 10. Auditions will be held March 3. Applications and audition requirements can be found online at amherstsymphony.com or by emailing scholarship chairman Sharron Rich at sharrona2@verizon.net.

TUNEFUL TALK – Speaking of music at the next luncheon meeting of the WNY Pen Women on Jan. 27 will be jazz trumpeter, author and columnist Phil Nyhuis. His topic: “Writing and Music: A Life on the Run.”
The program starts at noon in the Scotch ‘N Sirloin, 3999 Maple Road, Amherst. Cost is $19. All are welcome. Reservations are needed by Jan. 25. Call Barbara Blackburn at 634-2909 or Mary Ellen Shaughnessy at 885-3292.

FIRE UP – Proposals are being accepted for the 2018 WNY STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and math) Conference to be held Aug. 6 at Daemen College. It’s sponsored by the Education Collaborative of WNY and WNY STEM Hub.
Elementary and high school educators throughout the region are expected to attend. The theme is “Building Buffalo and Beyond.”
Educators and STEAM professionals are invited to submit ideas for 50-minute workshop presentations on topics such as arts integration, creativity, design and other ideas that inspire learning. Deadline for proposals is Feb. 28. Submission must be made online at surveymonkey.com/r/WNYSTEAM18.
