Erie County government has not settled any lawsuits for sexual harassment in the workplace over the last five years, a spokesman for County Executive Mark Poloncarz said.
So no tax dollars have been spent on such claims, said spokesman Peter Anderson.
Legislator Lynne Dixon on Thursday called on the administration to release all harassment settlements paid with taxpayer dollars over the past five years. She also called for a ban on taxpayer money being used to settle harassment claims and on confidentiality agreements unless requested by the victim.
"All settlements reached in lawsuits involving Erie County are a matter of public record ... so the information is available to anyone who requests it," Anderson said.
"While the plaintiff/claimant might agree to confidentiality, Erie County is prohibited by law from doing the same," he said.
