Albion woman charged with cruelty after alleged suffocation of dog and cat

An Orleans County woman faces charges in connection with the alleged suffocation of her cat and dog, according to Albion Village Police.

Suzanne K. Fredenburg, of the Village of Albion, was charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to an animal, an E class felony under the state's Agriculture and Market Law, Albion Village Police said.

Albion Village Police said an investigation Dec. 30 found on Oct. 31 Fredenburg allegedly placed a plastic bag over her dog's head until it suffocated and died, and allegedly used the same method to kill a cat.

Fredenburg allegedly told police she killed the animals because of an infestation of bird mites in or around her residence, Albion Village Police said.

Police searched the property, where they found the carcasses of both animals buried in the backyard, Albion Village Police said.

Albion's Village Police Department was aided by Orleans County Animal Control and the Humane Law Enforcement Department at Lollypop Farm.

Fredenburg was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to return to Gaines Town Court.
