Burglar, caught in Pendleton kitchen, pleads guilty

A burglar who was caught in the kitchen of a Pendleton home in 2016 pleaded guilty Monday in Niagara County Court.

Andrew F. Dear, 28, of Stone Road, Town of Lockport, accepted a plea offer to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree burglary. Judge Matthew J. Murphy III could send Dear to state prison for as long as seven years when he returns to court March 5.

Assistant District Attorney Claudette S. Caldwell said the owner of a Mapleton Road home found Dear in the kitchen Sept. 8, 2016.

Dear, whose only prior conviction was a misdemeanor, said he is taking medication for post-traumatic stress disorder and depression.
