Jamestown man charged with DWI after hitting semi head-on

A Jamestown man was charged with DWI and driving under the influence of drugs after he swerved head-on into a tractor trailer in the Chautauqua County Town of Kiantone early Saturday morning.

Craig M. Vanhook, 28, was northbound on Route 62 when he lost control of his vehicle about 3:20 a.m., Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies said. Vanhook swerved into a southbound semi, and two other tractor trailers tried to avoid the collision but could not, according to the sheriff's office.

The driver of the first truck, Christopher Powers, 35, of Frewsburg, was treated at the scene. The other truck drivers were not injured.

Vanhook was taken to WCA Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He is to appear in Kiantone Town Court at a later date.
