COX, Ann (Spork)

COX, Ann (Spork)

COX - Ann (nee Spork)
Mother, grandmother, wife, friend and nurse died peacefully on December 30, 2017 in Burbank, California after a long illness. She is survived by her four children Karl, Barbara (Cox-Winter), David and Kenneth, their spouses and six grandchildren. Those family and friends who knew Ann accompany her with our enduring love and innumerable memories as she leaves us. Ann was never happier than when helping those around her. She worked at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo as well as Millard Fillmore Suburban in Amherst, New York. She volunteered for disaster relief with the American Red Cross following floods and a tornado in Kentucky and hurricanes in Puerto Rico, as well as in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 in New York. As a dedicated mother, she would seek to instill the same sense of adventure and possibility in her children (minus the disaster!). She was largely successful in that regard for which her children are eternally grateful. Ann will also be remembered for the beautiful gardens she cultivated at her home and for her tenacious spirit most recently demonstrated in her undisputed reign as Bingo Queen of Burbank, California in the final years of her life! Born in 1932 in Buffalo, New York and a graduate of Parker High School in Clarence, New York as well as the University of Buffalo School of Nursing, Ann spent most of her life in Western New York before moving to Southern California in 2005. With her passing, Ann joins her husband George who predeceased her in 2013. A celebration of Ann's life and legacy will be held in Western New York this summer. Those wishing to join the ceremony or leave a word about Ann can contact the family at Donations in Ann's memory can be made to the Western New York Chapter of the American Red Cross by sending a check to American Red Cross of WNY, 786 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, New York 14209 referencing "In Memory of Ann S Cox".
