BATTEN, Grace Paternostro Lococo

BATTEN - Grace Paternostro Lococo Age 94, of Erie, PA, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017. She was born in Buffalo, NY on April 2, 1923, daughter of the late Andrew and Sarah Licata Paternostro. Grace lived in Buffalo until she married her husband, James Batten, in 1970. She attended public schools in Buffalo, the University of Buffalo and graduated from Mercyhurst College with a degree in music. She worked at the aircraft factories Bell and Curtis-Wright in Buffalo. Upon her graduation from Mercyhurst, she taught music at the Erie Day School. Grace was an avid gardener and loved spending countless hours nurturing her many vegetable and flower gardens. Her backyard was filled with many different varieties of plant life rivaling the botanical gardens. Her greatest enjoyment was sharing her knowledge and giving advice, flowers and vegetables to her friends and neighbors. She was a skilled seamstress, knitting and sewing many beautiful items for her family. Grace was also devoted to the musical arts, especially singing and opera. She sang with the Buffalo Civic Orchestra and the Symphonic Singers of Erie and was a soloist with the Niagara Frontier Symphonic. She performed in various operatic productions and was a member of the Chromatic Club and Schola Cantorum. Grace was preceded in death by her first husband, Atty Joseph Lococo; her second husband, James Batten; and her brother, Sebastian Paternostro. Survivors include her sons, Thomas Lococo (Lorraine), and Joseph Lococo; daughters, Christina Chandler, and Linda Lococo; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., Erie, PA 16510. Memorial contributions may be designated to Erie City Mission, 1023 French Street, Erie, PA 16501.
