Newspaper columnists rarely take the job because they want to be popular.
Which is a good thing for Rod Watson.
In the same week that Buffalo Bills fans erupted with unbridled joy at the team's first playoff appearance since 2000, Watson decided it would be a good time to remind them to have a little perspective.
"We can’t possibly be so psychologically pathetic that having a football team make the playoffs for the first time in 18 seasons becomes the most important thing in town," was one of the sentences he wrote.
Based on the comments on the column, let's just say that Watson's opinion is not widely shared by those who read it.
Here are 10 of the best, in no particular order:
"Rod, how many times were you the last one picked in kickball, man?"
"Is Santa Claus too jolly for you as well?"
"I'm a Bills fan but - 641 comments on this topic prove that Rod is right."
"I refuse to believe Rod is a real person."
"It appears this blanket is rather wet"
"Sully....is this really you?"
"Rod Watson is a clueless, joyless wobble of gelatin."
"Rod Watson eats his chicken wings with ranch dressing."
"'You know what? Rod is right. Sorry, Rod, I don't know what I was thinking.'
"Rod probably hates cotton candy and adorable puppies too."
