A man impersonating a police officer pulled a vehicle over in South Buffalo early on the morning of Dec. 28, Buffalo police Capt. Jeffrey Rinaldo said Thursday.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Abbott Road, near Mercy Hospital, when a brother and sister told police they were pulled over by a dark-colored SUV, Rinaldo said.
"Some conversation ensued. It ends, and they call police because they thought it was suspicious," said Rinaldo. "The vehicle appeared to have blue lights in the grill."
The man was dressed in plainclothes, had a full beard and appeared to be in his 30s, said Rinaldo. He wore jeans, a winter hat and weighed about 200 pounds, Rinaldo said.
Police are advising residents to be cautious and, if a similar encounter occurs, to call 911 and ask for a marked unit to respond to their location.
