RAND, Marion

Rand, Marion -
Marion (Swannie) Rand, of Weston, CT, passed away peacefully on Friday after a period of declining health. Born June 12, 1924, in Buffalo, NY, Marion was the cherished wife of the late Paul Rand, daughter of the late John and Esther (Parker) Swannie, and beloved sister of the late Jane (McCauley), Grace (Hayes), and Joan (Ruch). Marion is survived by Paul's daughter, Catherine Rand, Catherine's sons, Troy and Brody Gallaher, and niece Martha Ruch and nephew David Ruch. Marion was a 1945 graduate of the Pennsylvania College for Women in Pittsburgh (now Chatham University) and remained a generous alumna, donating a Tiffany window in 2000. She enjoyed a successful career working as a graphic artist for IBM in New York City, which is where she met Paul, a pioneer in graphic design who created innovative visual identities for some of America's major corporations. Paul was also a professor of graphic design at Yale. Together, they enjoyed many trips to Brissago, Switzerland, where Paul taught the summer program. We will remember Marion for her intelligence, optimism, generosity and love for the color orange, among other things. We would like to thank all of Marion's caregivers for their dedication and kindness, especially her devoted companion Kim Wangler. As per her wishes, Marion will be put to rest in Buffalo, NY. Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
