Buffalo, Lockport schools to close Friday due to 'dangerously cold' wind chill

Buffalo and Lockport city schools will be closed on Friday, Jan. 5.

Buffalo Public Schools said afterschool activities, including adult education, are also canceled for Thursday, Jan. 4. In addition, all school Saturday programs will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 6.

Lockport canceled classes for all regular, agency, BOCES, and parochial students, but says staff members should still report to work for professional development work.

The National Weather Service has issued a "dangerously cold" wind chill watch starting Thursday evening with temperatures anticipated to feel like minus-20. When temperatures reach the minus-25 mark with wind chill, there is a danger of frostbite. Overnight, temperatures will be in the negative and during the day on Friday, it will only be a few degrees above zero.
