Bankruptcy filings increase 3.3 percent in 2017

Bankruptcy filings in the Buffalo-Rochester region increased 3.3 percent in 2017, the first full-year increase since 2009.

The number of cases filed was 4,296, compared to 4,157 in 2016, according to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court's Western District. But the total was still down from 4,425 in 2015.

The case total increased 11.3 percent in December from a year ago, to 275.
