Pridgen re-elected to third term as Council president

The Buffalo Common Council gave a vote of confidence to its leadership team Tuesday, unanimously re-electing Ellicott Council Member Darius G. Pridgen to a third two-year term as Council president.

"We've done a lot. We have a lot more to do," Pridgen said after being renamed to the post.

The Council also unanimously re-elected Niagara Council Member David A. Rivera as majority leader and South Council Member Christopher P. Scanlon as president pro-tem. The leadership positions are all for two-year terms.

Pridgen was first named Council president in 2014, replacing Lovejoy Council Member Richard A. Fontana.

Under Pridgen's leadership, the Council has remained on good terms with Mayor Byron W. Brown. But it is not, Pridgen said Tuesday, a rubber stamp for the Brown administration.
