Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski will host another public information session on pistol permit renewals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4 in the Newfane Community Center, 2737 Main St.
Jastrzemski has been holding meetings to explain the NY-SAFE Act gun control law's pistol permit provisions. Under the law, every permit holder must recertify his or her information every five years. For those who had permits before 2013, the deadline is Jan. 31.
"People were issued permits that were supposed to be good for life, and this new requirement has turned that on its head," said County Legislator John Syracuse, R-Newfane, who will co-host Thursday's meeting. “We’re just trying to help keep everyone legal so that this isn’t an excuse for someone to be deprived of his or her rights.”
