CALDWELL, Carol Ann (Miller)

CALDWELL - Carol Ann (nee Miller)
Passed away peacefully on December 15, 2017, at the Village on the Isle retirement community in Venice, FL. She is survived by children Brian (Charlotte), Cynthia Reinhardt and Bruce (Irina) and grandchildren Jenny, Trudi, Tracy, Peter, and Tatiana. Carol is predeceased by her beloved husband Alan and son-in-law Ted. Carol was born in Buffalo, NY on October 16, 1928 to Hugh and Esther (Hohman) Miller. She was an avid student, graduating from Bennett High School, then Buffalo State Teachers College in 1949. There she met Alan Caldwell, who studied engineering at the University of Buffalo. She enjoyed his down to earth outlook and ready sense of humor. They were married in 1949. Soon they moved a few miles to Eggertsville, NY, where they raised their family. Carol taught 4th grade until Brian was born in 1952. Cindy arrived in 1954 and Bruce in 1961. A devoted homemaker and mother, Carol also served on the Millard Fillmore Hospital Junior Board and the Bristol Home Board. She enjoyed tennis, golf, and contract bridge and was President of the Amherst-Clarence Tennis Club. Later she volunteered at the Treasure Cay and Venice, FL libraries. Carol and Alan loved the Buffalo area and their many friends. They became snowbirds, spending winters at Treasure Cay in the Bahamas. In 1997, Alan contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome and Carol drove daily to Erie, PA for months, as he recovered there. In 2000, they moved to Venice, FL. Her husband of 65 years passed away there in 2014. Carol's quick smile and thoughtful, kind words endeared her to many. She had a good life and gave back generously. She is deeply missed by her children and grandchildren. There will be a private family memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
