Falls couple awakened by bullets ripping through bedroom

NIAGARA FALLS – A 20th Street couple told police they were awakened early Friday by several bullets ripping through the walls and window of their bedroom. No one was hurt by the gunfire.

A neighbor called police to report hearing as many as 10 gunshots in the 1000 block of 20th Street around 4 a.m., according to reports.  When officers arrived on scene, a 45-year-old man emerged from a nearby home saying that several bullets had penetrated his third-floor bedroom. Police located several spent shell casings on the sidewalk outside the residence.

Three bullet holes were found in a wall next to the bed where the couple had been sleeping. Two more shattered a nearby window and another punctured a separate wall. The couple's two children, ages 9 and 20, were asleep in a second-floor bedroom at the time, police said, and there was no damage to their room.

A possible suspect was seen fleeing into an alleyway between Woodlawn and LaSalle avenues, police said, but that person was never located.
