Buffalo Police give Roswell $37,000 in Beards for Bucks

After two months of growing facial hair for charity, several police officers gathered at the Training Academy at Buffalo Police Headquarters on Franklin Street to celebrate, and get a shave.

A total of $37,195 was raised as the result of efforts by hundreds of officers, Capt. Steven Nichols said. The  officers paid $50 each month while growing their beards. Some paid without growing any facial hair.

"More than 300 officers grew beards during November and December," said Nichols. "A Pink Party was organized by female officers where they painted their nails pink.

"Many of the women chose to add a black strip on their nail to honor Officer Craig Lehner," added Nichols. "Some chose his badge number 2469."

The Buffalo Police Benevolent Association contributed $10,000, said Nichols. All proceeds benefit Roswell Park Cancer Institute's Bald for Bucks program to advance the research and programs that support patients and survivors.
