Amherst residents face deadline to renew property-tax exemptions

Amherst property owners have until March 1 to renew their real-property-tax exemption.

The town mailed renewal forms to eligible taxpayers in September. Anyone who hasn't returned the necessary paperwork must come to the Assessor's Office by March 1. The office is located at 5583 Main St., Williamsville, and is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

This includes renewals for Enhanced STAR, low-income senior, disability, agricultural and not-for-profit exemptions. Basic STAR and veterans exemptions do not need to be renewed, unless you have a veterans disability and the disability rating changes.

Taxpayers filing for new Basic or Enhanced STAR exemptions now file directly with the state. Call 518-457-2036 or go to

Taxpayers filing for new exemptions for other classifications, such as veteran-owned, clergy-owned and not-for-profit properties, must file by March 1 at the Assessor's Office.

For more information, call the office at 631-7038.
