Letters: Emperor’s Christmas date transformed pagan festival

Emperor’s Christmas date transformed pagan festival

The Emperor Constantine picked a date for Christmas that was well-known to his citizens, thereby transforming a pagan festival. As the years went by, Christmas trees, present exchanges, etc., were added – these were fun and enjoyable activities. They were to remind them (and us) of the angel’s song praising God at the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem: “Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace among men, with whom he is pleased.” This is the real reason for this season!
