23 spots to eat, drink close to World Junior Championship games

Welcome to Buffalo. If there’s one thing we love here it’s eating, so we promise you won’t go hungry during the World Junior Championship. We’ve compiled a list of restaurants and bars within a 15-minute walk of KeyBank Center and HarborCenter where you can have a drink, grab a quick sandwich or even enjoy a high-end steak dinner.

(716) Food & Sport (7 Scott St., HarborCenter). Giant sleek sports bar with multiple televisions to watch the game. Plenty to eat and drink. Family friendly. Distance from KeyBank Center: 0.2 miles.

Ballyhoo Links & Drinks (211 South Park Ave.). Laid-back bar known for its scrumptious “jam session” cocktails, craft beers and homemade sausage sandwiches. Opens at 11:30 a.m.; noon on Saturday and Sunday. Distance from KBC: 0.4 miles.

Ballyhoo offers a variation of the game-day routine

Brawler’s Back Alley Deli (76 Pearl St.). Located below the Pearl Street Grill & Brewery, Brawler’s has quick grab-and-go sandwiches plus salads and breakfast. Bar opens early. Takeout available. Distance from KBC: 0.5 miles.

Buffalo RiverWorks (359 Ganson St.). This 60,000-square-foot mixed-use complex has a bar and restaurant, The Ward, that open at 11 a.m. daily. The restaurant is open until 10 p.m., though it has been known to stay open a bit longer. If you don't have tickets to a particular game, you can watch it on one of the venue's televisions. Family friendly. Distance from KBC: 0.9 miles.

Buffalo Iron Works (49 Illinois St.). Pre- and post-game food and drink specials. The games will shown on theater-sized screens. Live music follows games Thursdays through Sunday. Distance from KBC: 0.3 miles.

Buffalo Creek Casino (1 Fulton St.). There are four food and drink options in this casino: The Creek Stop, with fresh-prepared food to go available 24 hours; Stixx Sports Bar, where you can catch a game and enjoy drinks; the B-Lo Bar on the casino floor; and the new upscale steakhouse WD Bar and Grille. (WD is open 5 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Sunday brunch is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations are suggested.) Distance from KBC: 0.8 miles.

Cobblestone Bar & Restaurant (130 South Park Ave.). With plenty of televisions for watching the games, Cobblestone will have pre- and post-game food and drink specials. Distance from KBC: 0.2 miles.

Elements at Helium Comedy Club (30 Mississippi St., 853-1211). Looking for non-sports entertainment and a meal? Head to Helium where you can enjoy a pre-show meal inside Elements (reservations are required) and then catch a comedy show. This week, see Brad Williams at 8 p.m. Dec. 28, 7:30 and 10 p.m. Dec. 29-30 and 8 and 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31. Distance from KBC: 0.3 miles.

Healthy Scratch (75 Main St., HarborCenter Marriott). Walk up fast-casual restaurant serving healthy food — cold-pressed juices, smoothies, toasts, bowls, grab-and-go salads, wraps and snacks. Specialty coffee. Open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Distance from KBC: 0.1 miles.

Lagerhaus 95 (95 Perry St.). Gastropub serving craft beers, wines and creative cocktails. Pre- and post-game food and drink specials. Family friendly. Distance from KBC: 0.2 miles.

Liberty Hound (One Naval Park Cove). Located by the historic Erie Canal site, Liberty Hound will serve lunch and dinner. There will be free hot chocolate and you can watch a game on their big screens. Family friendly. Open from 11:30 a.m. to midnight. Distance from KBC: 0.1 miles.

Lockhouse Distillery (41 Columbia St.). First distillery opened in Buffalo since Prohibition. Features craft drafts, distilled selections, cocktails and food. Open to midnight after games and offering sandwiches, dips, spreads and cheese. (Closed Sunday.) Distance from KBC: 0.3 miles.

Louie's Cafe Buffalo (Buffalo News, 5th floor, One News Plaza). Fast food restaurant open to the public serves hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches, soups and breakfast items plus coffee and other beverages. Closes at 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Mahony (199 Scott St.). Located in the historic Fairmont Creamery building, the industrial chic bar has lots of wide open space perfect for gathering. Regular gastropub-style menu served with burgers, burritos and more. Drink specials: $5.50 Labatt draft souvenir cups, plus a spotlight on Buffalo craft beers including Flying Bison, 42 North and Big Ditch. Will be open after games. Family friendly. Distance from KBC: 0.7 miles.

The Mahony serves American standards with a twist

Milo’s (126 Michigan St., 856-4342). A small diner serving breakfast and lunch directly across from the Seneca Buffalo Casino. Open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for breakfast, lunch. Distance from KBC: 0.4 miles.

Lafayette Brewing Company (391 Washington St.). Bar and restaurant serving apps, soups, salads and specialty pizzas located in the historic Hotel @ The Lafayette. Distance from KBC: 1.4 miles.

Panorama on Seven (95 Main St., HarborCenter Marriott). Restaurant and lounge in the HarborCenter with stunning views of Lake Erie. Open from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The bar is open to 1 a.m. and specializing in specialty cocktails. Distance from KBC: 0.2 miles.

At Panorama on Seven, close-to-fine dining close to arena

Pearl Street Grill & Brewery (76 Pearl St.). Three levels of eating and drinking. Family friendly. Offering pre- and post-game specials. On days with four games, Pearl Street will serve a buffet on third and fourth floors. Plenty of televisions to watch one of the games.

Pizza Plant (125 Main St.). Located in the Courtyard Marriott across from HarborCenter, Pizza Plant is known for its signature pods. Open every day at 10 a.m. Family friendly. Distance from KBC: 0.3 miles.

Swannie House (170 Ohio St., 847-2898). Iconic historic Buffalo tavern serves good basic food, including Buffalo favorites like chicken wings and beef on weck. Nice selection of cold beer with $3 bottle beer and mixed drinks. Family friendly. Distance from KBC: 0.4 miles.

Tim Hortons HarborCenter (1 Scott St., corner of Main Street). Grab something quick at this Buffalo institution, a chain of coffee shops started by former Buffalo Sabre Tim Horton. Coffee, coffee drinks, baked goods, soups, sandwiches. Open daily 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. (11 p.m. on event nights). Distance from KBC: 0.2 miles.

Washington Square Bar & Grill (295 Washington St., 849-0619). Historic tavern serving beef on weck, clams casino and more. Special: 20-ounce $5 drafts of Labatt in souvenir cups.

Washington Square's authenticity is a hit with Bisons fans

William K’s Restaurant (329 Erie St.). A fine dining restaurant that features stunning views of Lake Erie. Bar is open 4 to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Dinner is served starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Sunday brunch is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
