RECALIBRATING – Due to the Christmas holiday, the IMAGINE Buffalo lunchtime lecture series will be held a day later that usual this week. It’s Wednesday, instead of Tuesday, in the Ring of Knowledge on the main floor of the Central Library on Lafayette Square in downtown Buffalo.
This week’s program also begins earlier, at 11:30 a.m. There will be showings of two Great Courses videos on “Emerson, Thoreau and the Transcendentalist Movement.” That will be followed at 12:30 p.m. by a discussion led by IMAGINE founder Dennis Galucki and a celebration of the eighth anniversary of the series.
Admission is free. You can bring a lunch or purchase one at the library’s Fables Cafe. The series is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Art & Architecture; History & Nature.

ACES HIGH – Free classes to introduce the card game of bridge will be held for middle and high school students from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sundays beginning Jan. 7 in the Bridge Center of Buffalo, 3362 Sheridan Drive, Amherst.

EDUCATED PALATES – For 2018, the New York Wine & Culinary Center on the Cananadaigua Lake Pier , 800 S. Main St., Canandaigua, is introducing the Wine Club, a series of tastings to be held on one Sunday each month.
Classes will discuss where the grapes for each wine originated, where they are grown today and how location affects their taste. Each session will conclude with a tasting review and hors d’oeuvres.
The series will cover the Classic Six wines – Chardonnay on Jan. 7, Cabernet Sauvignon on Feb. 4, Merlot of March 4, Reisling on April 15, Sauvignon Blanc on May 6 and Pinot Noir on June 3.
