Erratic driving, car in ditch leads to pair of DWI arrests

A Sanborn man was almost home recently when his car left the roadway and ended up in a ditch, leading to a drunken driving charge.

Troy J. Poitras, 24, of Upper Mountain Road, was arrested at 1 a.m. Dec. 14 after crashing a couple blocks away from his home, police said. He had a blood-alcohol content of 0.10 at the time, according to reports, and was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Buffalo resident Robert W. Burkard, 39, was charged with DWI in connection with a Dec. 15 incident on Lockport Road in the Town of Niagara, police said. Motorists had called police to report an erratic driver, and police spotted Burkard's car around 7 p.m. with debris in the undercarriage and crossing over into oncoming traffic.

Burkard reportedly told police he was heading home from a holiday party. The Neumann Parkway resident had a blood-alcohol content of 0.17, more than twice the legal limit, and was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.
