Buffalo man faces drug charges after hitting police car

A 28-year-old Buffalo motorist was charged with second-degree assault after he struck a police car and then tried to flee, police said.

Andrew B. Goldsmith of Spring Street ran south on Elmwood Avenue after hitting the police vehicle at 615 West Ferry St., at 11:54 a.m. Saturday, police said. He was caught near 654 Elmwood, but broke the glass on the south-facing door of 650 Elmwood during the chase.

Inside Goldsmith's car, a black 2005 Pontiac, police found a clear plastic bag with white powder in the center console, and a clear plastic bag with marijuana and cocaine on the front passenger seat, according to police reports.

Goldsmith was also charged with obstructing governmental administration, criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal mischief, and driving while intoxicated and ability impaired by drugs, police reports said.
