PORTER — A student in the Lewiston-Porter school system tried to use a counterfeit $50 bill to buy his mother Christmas gifts last week at a school-hosted shopping program, sheriff's deputies said.
A school employee confiscated the bill from the boy after noticing that it appeared to be suspicious. The boy, whose age was not revealed, reportedly told school officials that he found the bill on the basement floor of his mother's home, and wanted to use it to buy her gifts at the sale.
The mother was contacted at work and denied any knowledge of the bill, deputies said. No charges were filed.
