Free Christmas Eve dinner planned for homeless, families in need

The Buffalo Dream Center and Hearts for the Homeless in providing free Christmas Eve lasagna dinners for homeless individuals and families in need on Sunday in the Buffalo Dream Center, 286 Lafayette Ave.

The meal at 3 p.m. will be preceded by music, dance and a dramatic performance.

The dinner is expected to attract 300 to 400 people. About 150 volunteers from churches, businesses and organizations will help serve the meal.

“We have all worked hard for the entire month of December,” the Rev. Eric Johns, pastor of the Buffalo Dream Center, said in a statement. “We have been wrapping gifts and packing thousands of boxes of food. This meal is a great way to end our Boxes of Love campaign. This is what Christmas is all about – serving others.”

During the campaign, Buffalo Dream Center and other Western New York organizations helped 2,500 families with food and toys for Christmas. Boxes of Love held 21 distributions in Buffalo and Niagara Falls, and attracted 800 volunteers to make the effort possible.
