WS Development's plans to reshape the Northtown Plaza in Amherst into a "lifestyle center" featuring major new retailers in the market took a first step forward Tuesday night.
The Amherst Zoning Board of Appeals granted the owner of the outdoor shopping center at 3045 Sheridan Drive all nine of the area variances the company had requested. There were no objections raised by residents during the public hearing.
WS Development would construct six buildings on the property but its plans in some cases don't meet town code, such as by providing less landscaping and fewer parking spaces than required. WS attorney Sean Hopkins argued the landscaping would be far better than exists at the plaza and a parking analysis demonstrates the company's proposal is sufficient.
The town Planning Board will review the project site plan as soon as its January meeting.
