Money missing from hiding spot in ailing woman's apartment

NIAGARA FALLS – Two diamond rings that were thought to have been stolen from a woman's 101st Street apartment were later located inside the residence, but the woman's daughter says that $1,200 in cash remains missing.

Two nurse's aides who work with the 78-year-old woman – a Parkinson's patient – were interviewed by police, but they denied any knowledge of the missing money, which was inside a change purse. One of the aides told police that the woman claimed to have misplaced the change purse in the home's basement, but a search of the area failed to turn up the missing purse or money.

The rings, which were concealed in a hiding space beneath a bathroom sink inside the apartment, were located Sunday after a search of the residence, police said.
