Actor William Fichtner to be honored today at Maryvale High

Maryvale High School will honor alumnus and Hollywood actor William E. Fichtner at 2 p.m. Friday by dedicating its auditorium to him, said Joseph D'Angelo, superintendent of Maryvale Union Free School District.

Fichtner, a 1974 Maryvale graduate, will also be inducted as a distinguished alumni, D'Angelo said. Fichtner will be joined by friends, members of his family and hundreds of students in the high school auditorium at 1050 Maryvale Drive, Cheektowaga.

Fichtner, 61, was recently in Buffalo producing and starring in "Cold Brook," an independent film expected to debut in film festivals in 2018.

The superintendent said he got the idea this summer.

"It's bothered me that he wasn't formally recognized," said D'Angelo. "I reaching out to him in July, when I wrote the letter inviting him."

Students in the Hospitality and Tourism Academy planned the Buffalo-themed reception that will follow the ceremony.
