North Tonawanda hometown heroes banners to start featuring veterans, too

North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas has announced the Hometown Heroes’ Banners program is now open to any veteran and not limited to active duty military members.

Sally Urban, mother of  Marine Lance Cpl. Timothy G. Serwinowski, who was killed in action in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, inspired the first banner.

The banners will include a photo along with the name of the veteran. This year the American Legion, Sikora Post 1322,  has selected for this recognition Navy Machinist Mate Second Class Stephen Sikora, Army Air Corps Sgt. John Lukasik and Army Pfc. Stanley Maziarz.

The Sikora post is buying the first three banners with money from the Niagara County Community Funds, secured by Niagara County Legislators Richard Andres and Randy Bradt. For more information, call the mayor’s office at 695-8540.
