What to watch for Thursday

1. Boys hockey - Canisius vs. St. Joe's, 7:30 p.m.

St. Joe's, the two-time defending state Catholic champ, takes on rival Canisius for the first time this season at the Northtown Center.

The Marauders have 5-1 and 3-0 wins over Bishop Timon-St. Jude and Frontier, respectively. The Crusaders beat Orchard Park, lost to reigning state champ Williamsville North in regulation and most recently Lancaster in overtime Monday.

2. Boys basketball - ADPRO Public/Private Challenge at St. Mary's of Lancaster

The three-day, 11-game public vs. private showcase tips off at 5 p.m.

  • Clarence vs. Niagara Catholic, 5 p.m.
  • Cardinal O'Hara vs. Niagara Wheatfield, 6:30 p.m.
  • Lackawanna vs. Park, 8 p.m.

3. Girls basketball - Sacred Heart at Franklinville, 6:30 p.m.

Sacred Heart takes the hour-plus drive to take on one of the top small schools in Western New York in Franklinville.

The Sharks are led by Micaela and Siobhan Ryan and Jennifer Grimm, while the Panthers have their own impressive trio in Danielle and Allyson Haskell and Abby McCoy.

4. Girls hockey - Frontier/Lake Shore/Orchard Park vs. West Seneca/Hamburg/Eden, 4:30 p.m.

FLOP (3-1) visits WS/H/E (1-3) at the Hamburg Town Ice Arena today.

FLOP has been off since a 4-1 win against Williamsville last Tuesday. WS/H/E lost to Amherst/Sweet Home/Clarence yesterday, 5-1.
