The Williamsville Central School District is studying the elimination of class rank for all its high schoolers.
The School Board in September agreed to end class rank in its three high schools for incoming freshmen and all subsequent classes. But since then, district officials said they've heard from numerous students and parents who support eliminating it now for all grade levels.
School Board members appeared split on the idea at their regular meeting Tuesday night, but agreed to have the district survey high school sophomores, juniors and seniors for their opinions. A report is due back to the board early next year.
Class rank is no longer necessary for college admissions and increases anxiety and unhealthy competition among students, said officials at the largest suburban Buffalo school district.
