Canisius, Franklinville highly-ranked in first state boys basketball rankings

Five teams from Western New York are ranked in the top five of their respective classes in the New York State Sportswriters Association's first boys basketball polls of the season, which were released Tuesday.

Canisius and Franklinville are No. 2 in Class A and D, respectively, while Health Sciences is third in Class B, Chautauqua Lake fourth in Class C and East fifth in Class D.

An additional six teams are ranked in the top 19 of their polls, and 16 others are honorable mention. AA is the only classification that doesn't have a team in the top 20 or 25.

Honorable mention: Middle College, Nichols, Cardinal O'Hara, Dunkirk, Newfane.

Class C

4. Chautauqua Lake
7. Tapestry
Honorable mention: Maple Grove, Randolph, Silver Creek.

Class D
