Beer notes: Thin Man embraces Winter Classic, Pearl Street craves cookies

Thin Man collaborates for NHL Classic

Thin Man Brewery (492 Elmwood Ave.) has teamed up with Mikkeller Brewing NYC to launch Filthy Flow IPA (India pale ale), a collaboration limited-edition IPA brewed with Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic and Galaxy hops.

The beer pays homage to NHL teams the New York Rangers and the Buffalo Sabres, who will face off at Citi Field on New Year’s Day in the NHL’s annual outdoor game. The beer will be available in both cities on draft in select bars starting Dec. 15, and 16-ounce cans can be purchased at the stadium during the game. Call 923-4100.

Cookies and beer

Pearl Street Grill & Brewery (76 Pearl St.) will present its fourth annual Christmas cookie beer party from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 20 downstairs in its Brawler’s Back-Alley Deli.

Attendees are invited to bring a dozen (or more) homemade cookies in exchange for a flight of five different cookie-inspired beers from local breweries, or purchase beers by the flight or glass. Pints will be on sale for a discounted rate as well.

Woodcock goes tropical

Woodcock Brothers Brewing Company (638 Lake St., Wilson) will release a special batch of its XPA at noon Dec. 23. This new version of the beer is hopped with Mosaic, Citra, Amarillo and Galaxy, and then double dry-hopped with additional Galaxy hops for a hugely aromatic, juicy, tropical beer with a soft mouthfeel and minimal bitterness.

Customers are limited to one case per person and the brewery is offering a free beer can-shaped glass to customers who purchase a full case.

For the release, the brewery will be serving at least one cask version of the beer. For the first time since May, XPA also will be distributed throughout the area to various beer stores and bars. Call 333-4000.

Pressure Drop won't lower its voice

Pressure Drop Brewing has released its newest beer, Citra Screamer, an all Citra-hopped cream ale coming in at 5.8 percent ABV (alcohol by volume). The beer will be available at The Barrel Factory (65 Vandalia St.) as well as other area bars and stores. Call 541-1454.

NYE bash at Resurgence

Resurgence Brewing Company (1250 Niagara St.) is hosting a New Year’s Eve Brew Bash on Dec. 31. Tickets are $100 plus tax and gratuity, and must be pre-purchased (available on Resurgence’s website). Only 125 are being sold.

The event will feature a special New Year’s Eve beer release. It will be catered by Lomo Lomo and includes an open bar from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., a s’mores station, champagne toast at midnight, complimentary cigars in the biergarten, a Polaroid photo station and games. Call 381-9868.
