'Code Blue' in effect tonight in Buffalo

Buffalo has implemented its emergency weather safety plan for the city's homeless for tonight, a protocol known as "Code Blue."

Three shelters will be open from 8 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday. They are the Matt Urban Hope Center, 385 Paderewski Dr.; St. Luke's Mission of Mercy, 325 Walden Ave.; and Harbor House, 241 Genesee St.

The program also provides outreach, case management, transportation, as well as a warm meal and shelter.

A "Code Blue" goes into effect when evening temperatures or wind chills fall to 15 degrees or below.
