Westfield man faces drug, traffic charges after vehicle winds up in a field

A Westfield man was arrested on drug and traffic charges Wednesday afternoon after his vehicle left Portage Road (Route 394) in the Town of Chautauqua and wound up in a field, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Kevin J. Kelley, 54, of East Main Road, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, moving from lane unsafely and speed not reasonable and prudent. He was not injured, officers said, and was released pending a court appearance in January.

Deputies noted that a witness reported Kelley had been driving erratically before he crashed about 3:40 p.m. near 6398 Portage Road. They said he was in possession of a controlled narcotic medication without a prescription.
