Smoking and vaping at West Seneca parks, playgrounds and town-owned property is now prohibited.
The Town Board approved the local law in a 2-1 vote Nov. 13. Those found guilty of violating the law are subject to up to 15 days in jail and up to a $250 fine.
"So when you're coming into town hall, there will be no smoking in front of town hall, or any of our parks," Supervisor Sheila Meegan said during a public hearing on the proposal.
Councilman Gene Hart, who said he is not a smoker, voted against the measure.
"I guess I think you ought to have the right to smoke cigarettes in town areas outside of town buildings, outside the workplace," he said.
