Tom the Turkey set example all should have learned from

Benjamin Franklin thought the wild turkey should be the national bird. I did not understand his logic until the last few years I knew Tom the Turkey.

The character Tom displayed for the motorists passing by was unfortunately missed by the hurried and impatient. Tom was unwavering in his defense of home, family and food. He was courageous and confident. He set examples for us all to learn from; not so sure we did.

I was concerned for Tom that day he made the front page of The News. Although deserving of the recognition, I knew this would ultimately lead to his demise. Unfortunately it did.

Ben Franklin was a printer. Not sure Tom’s story would have made it off his press if he knew what would happen to his fine feathered and courageous friend if it did.
