Late-season archery/muzzleloader opens Dec. 11

Big-game hunters are down to crunch time for getting that deer or bear for this year. The regular season ends on Sunday, Dec. 10 at sunset. Sunrise on Dec. 11 kicks off the late archery and muzzleloader seasons, ending on Dec. 19. Crossbows are included in this special season. Remember that you must possess a muzzleloader stamp to be able to hunt with crossbows outside of the regular season.

Safety is still of the utmost importance, especially for smokepole users. Be sure to properly identify your target and look beyond that target before you pull the trigger. Never shoot at sound or movement. Again, hunting is from sunrise to sunset. And if you are successful, make sure you report your harvest within seven days. It’s the law! There are three options by phone, online and smart phone app. Check it out at www.dec.ny.gov.
