As countries begin to release their preliminary rosters for the IIHF World Junior Men's Championship, one notable name is still missing. Alexander Nylander.
The Buffalo Sabres prospect was not on Sweden's preliminary roster released on Wednesday. There were 26 players listed on the roster. Teams carry 23 during the tournament.
That doesn't mean Nylander is definitely out. He can still be added to the final roster.
Nylander has five goals and seven assists for Sweden in last year's world junior tournament. An injury delayed the start of his season this year and he has one goal and three assists for the Rochester Americans.
Sabres prospect Marcus Davidsson was named to the roster. The forward has one goal and seven assists in 21 games for Djurgardens IF of the Swedish Hockey League.
Three other Sabres prospects were named to their respective country's preliminary roster including forward Casey Mittelstadt (U.S.), Vojtech Budik (Czech Republic) and goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (Finland).
Team Canada is announcing its preliminary roster Wednesday afternoon.
